Get a Library Card?
Library cards are issued to patrons seven years old or older and /or in first grade and need a parent’s signature until age fourteen. All patrons must be a resident of our library district (Bicknell-Vigo Township Public Library), please bring proof of current address and we can issue you a library card. You may be a reciprocal borrower and be issued a card by bringing in your home library’s card.

Adult patrons (14 years old and up) may check out 15 books at one time.  Children (7 years old or in first grade and through 13 years old) may check out 3 books at one time.

Get a Replacement Card?
Your first library card is issued without charge.  Replacement cards are issued for a nominal fee of $2.00.

Check out an E-Book?
The library continues to offer the OverDrive Digital Library found on the library’s website. First time users will be prompted to enter a password and their library assigned card number.  The first time password is userpass.  Then you will be prompted to create your own password that you will use to access your library account. 

The staff can help you with this process or you may acquire a set of instructions from the library. Once completed, you will go into the Digital Library to select your choice of titles. E-Books will return automatically to the Digital Library after 14 days. You may check out 4 books at a time. Please do not hesitate to contact the library for help in this process if you experience problems. We will be more than happy to help you. 

Renew Items Borrowed?
Please call or bring the items you’d like to renew into the library, it will be renewed unless it has been reserved for another patron. You may renew twice.

Return Items Borrowed?
Please bring in the items you need to return or place them in the drop box at Bicknell branch or the front door slot at Sandborn branch.

Get Other Benefits of my Library Card?
Your library card permits you to check out books, movies and digital media. Most items may be borrowed except for Reference books. Additionally, your library card allows you to attend any of the programs offered by the library. You may also access our website and use our Public Access Catalog and our Digital Media Library. The library system cards are welcome at both the Bicknell and Sandborn libraries.

Search the Catalog?
Searching the online catalog is simple. You may use titles, authors or keywords. When you find what you are looking for, it will tell if the item is located at the Bicknell or Sandborn library and if the items are in or not. If the item you need is at the other library, the director will be happy to get it for you, usually by the next day.

Reserve a Title?
When looking for a particular title, you may find it has been checked out. You can reserve a particular item by calling the library or reserving it through the online catalog. You may always call either Bicknell or Sandborn and ask one of the staff to help you.

Check out Movies?
All patrons may check out movies, but the staff will dispense movies to those under the age of 14 using age appropriate guidelines. There is a limit of three (3) movies per library card and they are checked out to you for a period of 7 days

Borrow Items from Another Library?
Our library belongs to the statewide reciprocal borrowing agreement which allows you to use our card at certain Indiana libraries. Call the library for information on Indiana libraries that you may borrow items from. For those libraries that are not on the list, you must purchase a State PLAC card for a fee set by the State of Indiana to gain borrowing privileges. Our library also uses the State’s Interlibrary Loan services and will make requests to have books sent here on your behalf free of charge. Please contact our Director, Deborah Kean, from our Contact Us page for more information and interlibrary loan procedures.

Pay Fines and Fees?
Please come into the library and pay any of your fines accumulated by overdue items. Our fines are $0.05 per day per item up to a total of $5.00. Please see “Make Copies…..” link for a list of the various fees.

Use a Computer?
Please review our Policies regarding computer use. Presently we have six adult (10 years old and up) patron-use work stations at the Bicknell facility and three at our Sandborn facility. All computers are equipped to access the Public Access Catalog. In addition we have one child computer at the Bicknell facility and one at the Sandborn branch library for children under 10 years old.

Sign Up or Register for a Class or a Program?
We have various programs and classes for adults, teens and young children. You may learn more about each particular program we offer from their respective pages.  If you’d like to speak with the director or another staff member about any particular program or class, our phone number is in the Contact Us section or on your library card for your convenience.

Connect to WIFI?
Wi-Fi is available at both Bicknell and Sandborn facilities to be used during regular library hours only.

Suggest a Purchase, a Class, or a Program?
Contact our Library Director, Deborah Kean. You may call or send an email to our Contact Us page. Please include whether your suggestion is for a physical book or digital media.

Return Items when the Library is Closed?
Our Bicknell Library has an outdoor return box. Simply place the items in there. Sandborn has a slot in the front door.

Make Copies, Print, Laminate, Scan, or Fax?
All black and white copies are printed from the Brother printer HL-5370DW and color copies are printed from the Brother printer MFC-J6935DW. The staff will make copies, laminate small items, scan and fax for the patrons. The fee for color copies is .30 cents , .15 cents for black and white copies, .25 cents for front and back copies and legal size .20 cents.  Lamination of small items is .50 cents. Outgoing faxes are $1.00 a page with incoming ones costing .10 cents a page. Scanning fee is .50 cents a page.

Join the Friends of the Library Group on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 2:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Bicknell Library. New members are welcome. The main fundraiser is an ongoing book sale at both library locations. Funds raised are used for library programs.

Support Your Library?
Donations of new or gently used books, DVDs, CDs, or Audiobooks; Monetary gift toward the purchase of a book, audiobook, CD or DVD to be placed in the library in memory of or in honor of a loved one; A special personalized name plaque will be placed on the inside cover of the book. Monetary donations to the library – Whether it be a random act of kindness on your part to help support your library community to be used at the discretion of the director for additional program expenses such as for presenters during Summer Reading held at both library locations, or other demonstrations and programs offered to patrons throughout the year or for a specific area of the library dear to your heart. It may also be given in honor or in memory of a loved one. Becoming a member of the Friends of the Bicknell-Vigo Township Public Library; volunteering to assist with various library programs. All donations, whether of your time or money to benefit our library community are sincerely appreciated.

You are welcome to bring in your family search material. The library director, Deborah Kean looks forward to assisting you. We have a wonderful collection of family histories, cemetery records and obituary files in our genealogy room and also have the Bicknell newspapers from the early 1900’s forward on microfilm.
